The score
owns the fold

Alerts hold the top of the page and push the score down until they are dismissed or acted on. Clear them and the hero owns the fold again. Every action lives in the Notification Card you already ship — Start Workout, Log Meal, Take tomorrow off — and everything below the score is stats and trends.

01  The constant

A hero that yields the top when something needs you

Per the rev-4 spec the score is a credit score for your goal — 300–850, five published weights, climbs slowly and falls fast. The arc is colour-coded to its band, the one-line attribution names the cause, and the reasoning behind it is the first thing you meet on scroll.

712 of 300–850

The arc is position in the range, not percent of a goal. No band notches up here — those belong in the breakdown.

ON TRACK, in green

The band names the state and the colour repeats it. Red / amber / green rides the band, never the delta — so a down day inside a green band stays green, and red only shows in Off track, where the goal genuinely is not happening.

−11 today

The fall is shown, not hidden. Spec invariant: over-reaching must make the number visibly drop with the cause named, or the metaphor has failed.

Verdict below

The attribution line — one sentence naming the dominant factor. Never a status chip.

What's in your score

A ghost pill under the number. Published weights are the point of a credit score, so the way in cannot be a hidden tap.

600px, when nothing is pending

The hero owns the first screen only on a clear day. Alerts outrank it: they take the top and push it down, because a number you cannot act on should not outrank a thing you can.

The score never vanishes

While alerts hold the top, a compact score bar sits above them — dot, 712, On track, −11. Costs 46px and means the number is never absent from a screen built around it.

Three, then collapsed

At most three cards can hold the top; the rest fold into 2 more. Without a cap, a busy day buries the score under 1,300px of alerts.

Why it moved sits with the score

Not an alert — an explanation. It follows the hero rather than competing for the top, so alerts stay things you do and the summary stays a thing you read.

No CTA in the hero

The score reports; it does not ask. Start Workout moved into a reminder card — the same component that now carries Log Meal, Take tomorrow off, and the Apple Health sync.

The workout card is pinned

It carries a Today tag and no Dismiss. Every other card can be cleared; this one cannot, because the app’s actual job is getting you to train and a dismissible CTA is not a CTA.

One filled action per card

Both references do this — one solid pill, one outline. Orange is spent once, on Start Workout; every other filled action is black.

Sculpt phrases, never computes

Every figure in Why it moved comes from the nightly recompute. The card says so, with a link into the breakdown.

A 72px peek

On a clear day the first card below the hero breaks the fold by exactly enough to read as a card. That edge is the entire scroll affordance.

02  What we are working with

Nothing below is new — it is re-ordered

Every block in Tab — Home (Premium), and what each concept does with it. The refactor is a layout problem, not a build problem.

Notification Card

Promoted to the spine of the page. Same component, four new uses: Start Workout, Log Meal, Take tomorrow off, and the Apple Health sync it already ships with.

Week Calendar

Cut. 80px of the first screen showing which of the last seven days you trained — a fact the streak chip and Adherence both already carry.

Card / Workout Hero

Cut. 420px of photography to launch a session a reminder card launches in 48px. It belongs on the Workouts tab, where choosing is the job.

Calorie Chart Card

Becomes a Today tile. The full gauge lives on the Food tab, one tap away.

Steps + Weight Cards

Today tiles, and a row each in Trends. One number and one chart is all either ever carried.

Exercise + Weight Charts

Demoted to Insights rows. 562px of chart for two numbers.

Intake Distribution

Cut from Home. Three macro rings is a Food-tab density, not a dashboard glance. Protein survives as a tile.

Ask Sculpt Card

Becomes Why it moved — the coach speaks about the score or not at all.

Tab Bar + Sculpt FAB

Lifted off the edge. A frosted pill with labelled destinations, the FAB split out as its own circle beside it, and content scrolling behind both.

03  Concepts A–C

Two alert arrangements, and the state where there are none

A and B are the same screen on a busy morning, arranged two ways. C is the same screen once everything has been actioned or dismissed — the state that decides whether the model is worth it.

Concept A

Alerts First

The reference arrangement in our components. Three cards hold the top under a "Needs you" pill, the compact score bar sits above them, and the full hero waits below. Start Workout is now the first thing on the screen, which is where the app's job belongs.

Push Day is ready

45 mins · 4 exercises at Crunch Fitness. Chest is at 41% freshness — above the 33% line, so this one will not cost you.

Lunch isn't logged

1,694 kcal and 35 g of protein still to go. Coverage is 15% of your score, and protein is the row costing you.

Two sessions started under 33% freshness this week. One rest day and chest clears 66% by Thursday.

Recovery is the ceiling

You trained back at 28% freshness twice this week.

Why it movedSculpt · rewritten 6:02 AM

Turning up has not been your problem — 18 of 20 sessions in four weeks, which carried you from 644 to 723. Chest is what pulled you back: Push Day at 28% freshness on Nov 24, then again on Nov 29.

Recovery is 20% of the score and the one factor where training more makes it worse. It earns back at +6 a day at most, so about a week.

Strength — the app's job is the first thing you see. Start Workout at the top of the screen is worth more than any arrangement below the fold, and the score is still present as a bar, so nothing was traded away to get it. All shipped components.

Weakness — on an alert morning the Sculpt Score is roughly 700px down. We spent four rounds making it own the fold and this hands the top back. The score bar softens that, but a 17px number is not the hero we designed.

Open — what earns a card. Three slots and no rule for what qualifies means the strongest alert is whichever team ships last.

Concept B

Ranked By Effect

★ Recommended

The same three slots, but each card carries what it is worth to your score and they sort by it. Rest is −11 so it leads, the workout is +3, lunch is −1 — and the overflow row says the rest have no effect at all, which is a real reason to leave them collapsed.

Strength — the only version where the order means something. A delta chip turns "you have a notification" into "this one is worth eleven points", which is the single thing a composite score buys you that nothing else can. It also makes the coach's summary and the cards agree, because both read the same ranking.

Weakness — it puts a number on things that do not deserve one. "Log lunch, −1" is technically true and reads as permission to skip it. And the ranking demotes Start Workout to second, which is the wrong answer for a training app no matter what the arithmetic says.

Open — steps have no term in the formula, so a ranked stack has nowhere to put them. Either they earn a term or they stay a Today tile and never become a card.

Concept C

Nothing Pending

The same screen once everything has been actioned or dismissed. No score bar, no cards, no pill — the hero is back at the top owning the fold, followed by the coach, a quiet caught-up line and the dashboard. This is the state the whole model is judged on.

Strength — this is the screen we spent four rounds designing, and it is still intact. Alerts are a temporary interruption, not a permanent layer, so the hero we argued for survives contact with the notification system rather than being replaced by it.

Weakness — it may be rare. If a user has an unactioned alert most mornings, this state is the exception and A is the real Home, which would mean the 600px hero is a design for a day that seldom happens. Worth measuring before committing.

Open — whether the caught-up line earns its place or is a pat on the head. Oura shows nothing when there is nothing; the honest version of this screen may be the hero and then straight into the dashboard.
